Commuter train crashes into Hoboken station in New Jersey; 1 confirmed dead

PHOTOS - A commuter train plowed into the bustling Hoboken rail station during the morning rush hour Thursday, injuring more than 100 people, some of them critically, in a tangle of broken concrete, twisted metal and dangling cables, authorities said. Democratic Assemblyman Raj Mukherji, who represents Hoboken, said a transit official told him at least one person had died and two were injured critically.

Officials: South Carolina firefighter stopped school gunman

A volunteer firefighter, who one of the first emergency responders to arrive at Townville Elementary School after shots rang out Wednesday afternoon, was able to stop the teen suspect and hold him until deputies arrived, Anderson County Emergency Management Director Taylor Jones said. Deputies said a 14-year-old opened fire on the school’s playground just before 2 p.

Lawsuit says Georgia county retaliated against firefighters for wearing uniforms to public meeting

A federal court may decide whether Gwinnett County can discipline firefighters for wearing their uniforms to public meetings. The county prohibits employees from wearing their uniforms when not on duty, but 16 firefighters wore their work attire to a County Commission meeting where they believed the fire department budget would be discussed.

Oklahoma firefighters injured when brand new fire engine rolls

PHOTO - Two firefighters were ejected from a brand new fire engine early Wednesday morning as they responded to a fire. Emergency crews responded to a house fire in Coyle just after 1 a.m. As a police officer from Langston University arrived to the front of the house it was fully involved. The fire also extended to a nearby vehicle.

Ohio town using decontamination kits for firefighters on scene to fight cancer risk

The team in Colerain Township was taking a proactive approach they said after a study still ongoing by the National Institute of Safety and Health, or NIOSH as it's known, found when fires burn it's a health hazard to firefighters, in a big way. People know the danger as fire destroys a burning building.
