VIDEO: Fire officials are reminding people not to fly drones over active fire zones as crews continue to fight several wildfires in Spokane County. The California Interagency Incident Management Team 7 says it saw 26 “private drone incursions” on Sunday over the area of the Old Trails Fire, which forces air resources to be grounded.

“Our pilot safety comes first,” said Tom Stokesberry, a fire official with California Interagency Incident Management Team 7 on Monday morning. “We don’t wanna have an airstrike with a drone that’s gonna put one of our pilots in danger.” Stokesberry says flying drones in a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) area is a violation of federal law and can result in a $10,000 fine.

“Please let our firefighters get in here and continue to suppress this fire from both the air and the ground,” Stokesberry said.
