FSTAR Health Seeking Information on Firefighter Physicals

The International Association of Fire Chiefs is urging all members of the fire service to take a short survey created by the Firefighter Safety Through Advanced Research (FSTAR) Health to gather information on the medical monitoring and care of firefighters. The survey is open until June 30, 2016.” Research indicates that firefighters are at increased risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, musculoskeletal injuries, behavioral health issues, lung disease, sleep disorders and infectious diseases.

Truck driver pinned upside down after crashing on Highway 97 near Union Gap

(VIDEO) A semi-truck crashed this morning near Union Gap on Highway 97. The driver, from Portland, *walked away. Troopers with the Washington State Patrol say the 51 year old man was driving too fast northbound on Highway 97 when he took the off ramp to Main Street. As he took the curve, the semi rolled, pinning the driver upside down in the cab of the truck.

Clark County church arsons investigation continues

Less than a month ago, fire investigators were stretched thin by a string of three church arsons that occurred within a five-day period. Local and federal agencies joined forces to find out who was responsible for the fires, which officials say were all set by the same person or group. They warned other places of worship to stay extra vigilant in the wake of the crimes.

DNR seeks denial of oil-terminal project

A Washington state agency in charge of protecting millions of acres of state land from wildfires is opposing a proposal to build an oil-by-rail terminal in Vancouver, citing risks of blazes from increased train traffic and other concerns. The Department of Natural Resources urged a state energy panel to recommend that the project be rejected, according to a brief filed ahead of hearings that begin Monday.
