Duplex fire in Yakima leaves 15 people without a home

Firefighters in Yakima say 15 people have been displaced after a fire broke out at a duplex, early Wednesday morning. Firefighters say around 12:30 a.m. they were called to the 1100 block of W. Washington Ave. When crews arrived, they found flames burning throughout one unit of the duplex. They say flames spread quickly, reaching a detached two story house nearby.

Child found dead in Tacoma duplex fire

Heartbroken family members say the 3-year-old child who died in the fire was named Nehemiah; his nickname was "Little Nemo." Demi Garcia is 21 and a new member of the state’s elite helitack firefighting team, so new she was still awaiting her first real action Wednesday as she and team members participated in their last hands-on training in preparation for fire season. “If there’s a fire today, I’m first out,” said the California native, who’s stationed in Ellensburg.
