Old Unity Township Fire Station to Be Used as Satellite Location

UNITY TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKBN) - The Unity Township fire station is back up and running after closing almost 14 years ago. Firefighters from the East Palestine and New Waterford departments who live closest to Unity Township will man the station as a satellite location. The equipment, including trucks, will also come from the other departments.

Last November, residents approved a $1.5 million levy to bring in about $100,000 each year for five years.

East Palestine Fire Chief Joshua Brown said both departments were already contracted there, but this will make response faster.

“This just provides us with an opportunity to have our membership that lives in the township respond to a station that’s closer, and as well put fire protection on the street and faster in the township,” Brown said.

Both departments are accepting applications for employment.
