Lebanon Fire Chief Perry Gerome is working under an ultimatum issued by the city manager after calling on-duty fire crews and equipment to his home to help celebrate his wife’s 50th birthday by pretending the house was on fire.
The chief also had crews deliver a chain saw to help him clear fallen limbs after a storm earlier this year.

The trial of a Lansing man accused of striking and killing a firefighter last year is delayed indefinitely, after a judge ruled Wednesday that he is incompetent to stand trial.
Grant Taylor, 23, is facing murder and other charges in the death of 35-year-old Dennis Rodeman, who was killed in September while he and other firefighters were collecting donations for charity near the intersection of Cedar Street and Jolly Road.

A Cleveland firefighter who lost his job after pleading guilty to paying co-workers to cover his shifts is suing the city to get his position back, arguing that his race was a factor in his firing.
Calvin Robinson, 55, says in his lawsuit that the city, in firing him, discriminated against him because he is black.
