Suspected Drunk Driver Arrested After Crashing Into Spring (TX) Fire Station

A suspected drunk driver crashed into Spring Fire Station 73 Tuesday morning, according to deputies with the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, click2Houston.com reported.

After the crash, deputies said the driver got out of the vehicle and fled on foot but was quickly captured, the report said.

The suspect’s identity has not been released as charges are pending, according to the report.

Brunswick (ME) Adjusting to New $13M Fire Station

After more than a century serving the town from the historic Central Fire Station at Town Hall Place, the Brunswick Fire Department is adjusting to its new, thoroughly modern digs, pressherald.com reported.

Brunswick firefighters began moving into their new $13 million, 26,000-square-foot station at 119 Pleasant Street on Dec. 22, 2022.

The department received a nice surprise Monday, the department announced on its Facebook page. “Dave Watson delivered this incredible piece for our new station. The podium was originally donated to the American Legion by Robert and Gretchen Evans. The Legion thought it was better suited for our new training room as we settle into our new station. A very special thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Evans, and to the American Legion.”

Kimball Township (MI) Fire Department Gets $122K Grant for New Radios

The Kimball Township Fire Department will soon be getting new radios thanks to a federal grant, thetimesherald.com reported.

The fire department received a $122,338 Assistance to Firefighter’s Grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency last week, the report said.

They applied for the grant in January 2022. The money will be used to replace all of the radios, including the portable and in-truck models, the report said.

Kimball Township Fire Department currently has 35 working radios and six are out of service, according to the report.

OH Fire Departments Responding to Norfolk Southern Train Derailment Face Expensive Gear Replacement

If Wellsville (OH) is an example, local fire stations responding to the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine are now facing expensive gear replacement costs due to the exposure to carcinogens while the train cars burned, reviewonline.com reported.

The Wellsville Fire Department is looking at an estimated $100,000 worth of gear to replace if not more, according to a fire official, the report said.

The fire department has seven sets of turn-out gear (protective garment worn by firefighters) to replace at an estimated cost of $5,000 a set. This includes, helmet, coat, pants, boots, gloves and Nomex hood.

Turn-out gear is primarily for thermal protection and does not protect a firefighter from carcinogens or dangerous chemicals in the air which can be absorbed through the skin.

According to the fire official, those departments purchasing this gear from multiple manufacturers are being advised to call the manufacturers for recommendations, the report said.

VIDEO: 2-alarm fire destroys home in New Jersey

PHOTOS: A two-alarm fire gutted a South Jersey home Tuesday night. It happened just before 8 p.m. on the 200 block of Port Elizabeth-Cumberland Road in Maurice River Township. Action News obtained dramatic video of the inferno-like scene from the ground as intense flames burned through the two-story house.
