Snohomish County Fire District 1 Commissioners unanimously elected Jim McGaughey to serve as board chair for the coming year.
Out-going chair Jim Kenny was unanimously elected by the board to serve as vice chair. The elections were held last week during the board’s first regular meeting of the year.

Firefighters doused a house fire in Hazel Dell this morning where one person required medical treatment at the scene.
The fire was reported at about 10 a.m. at 601 N.E. 83rd Street, just west of Interstate 5, with arriving firefighters reporting flames coming from several sides of the two-story house, Clark County Fire District 6 Assistant Chief Shawn Newberry said.

One person died and another was injured in a head-on collision Thursday morning near Silverdale.
Officials with the Kitsap County Sheriff's Office say one vehicle crossed the center line on Clear Creek Rd NW near Orweiler Rd NW and struck another car just before 7 a.m.
When firefighters arrived, a bystander had used his own tools to removed the woman from the vehicle and begin CPR.
