Update: Audio from the Philly Ladder Truck Crash

 

On Sunday November 30, Ladder 13, with the Philadelphia (PA) Fire Department, was involved in an accident while en route to a reported fire. The tractor-drawn aerial hit several parked vehicles before coming to a stop. Ladder 13 radioed a MAYDAY for the location and requested EMS to respond. The five firefighters on the rig suffered injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

Background checks stir state probe of Buffalo fire unit

Joseph J. Tomizzi’s decision to step down as a deputy fire commissioner occurred while he and the Fire Investigation Unit he headed are being investigated by the state Attorney General’s Office, a probe that apparently centers on allegations that Tomizzi was abusing his authority by performing criminal background checks on individuals, The Buffalo News has learned.

Female firefighters are few, far between in North Texas fire departments

Steph Bouillion never thought she’d be a firefighter. The odds seemed to be against her. Last December, the 27-year-old became one of just two women hired by the Garland Fire Department in nearly 15 years. “I know I’m one of a few,” she said. In North Texas, female firefighters are scarce. Data provided to The Dallas Morning News by 20 fire departments in the Dallas-Fort Worth area shows that as of June, women made up more than 2 percent of firefighters in just six departments.
