Lit candles spark fire in Issaquah home

Lit candles are being blamed for a fire that damaged an Issaquah home early Friday. Firefighters responded to the home, in the 300 block of NE Eagle Way in Issaquah, at about 1 a.m. after receiving 911 calls. The family and their pets were outside the home when crews arrived, and flames were shooting out of the kitchen window.

Nervous Auburn residents on arsonist: 'Let's just get him'

Dozens of people packed into an Auburn gym on Tuesday night to try to get answers about a recent string of arsons. Seventeen fires have been set since mid-September, and police say they're doing everything they can to figure out who's setting the blazes. But nervous homeowners say they're worried they could be next.

2-alarm fire destroys popular Westport winery

Thousands of dollars worth of beer and wine went up in flames Tuesday night in Westport. Firefighters were called to the Cranberry Road Winery on South Forrest Street and State Route 109 just after 6:00 p.m. By the time crews arrived, the entire building, which also houses the Bog Water Brewery, was engulfed in flames.

Spike in Rhode Island firefighters' sick and injury time deemed 'suspicious'

The city’s firefighters are sabotaging a cost-savings plan by calling in sick and claiming on-the-job injuries, Public Safety Commissioner Steven M. Paré said Tuesday, citing statistics and a handful of incidents that point to what he describes as a “manipulation” of the Fire Department’s injury policy.
