Garage, mobile home destroyed in Union Gap

Fire officials say a blaze that destroyed one home, damaged another and displaced six people was started when a man used a torch to heat metal while fixing a car. Firefighters arrived at 2415 S. 10th Ave. about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday to find the garage fully ablaze, said Capt. Jeff Pfaff of the Yakima Fire Department.

‘Hard for me to believe that I’m here’: Firefighter burned in Twisp blaze goes home

His face is scarred, he’s missing the tips of all 10 fingers and he has a long, difficult recovery ahead. But the young firefighter who survived last summer’s deadly Twisp River blaze said he’s grateful for the family, friends and community who have helped him pull through. “This accident was a true tragedy, but it’s brought out what’s good in the world,” said Daniel Lyon Jr.

Firefighter injured in wildfire near Twisp to leave hospital

The firefighter severely injured in an eastern Washington wildfire flare-up that killed three of his comrades is leaving the hospital Wednesday after three months of treatment. Twenty-five-year-old Daniel Lyon plans to speak to the media for the first time before he goes home. Lyon suffered burns on more than 60 percent of his body on Aug.
