Pregnant Philadelphia mom returns to burning home for toddler, both perish

A mother who went back into a burning Philadelphia home to save her young child died in the fire, along with the toddler. The mother was pregnant, family members told NBC10. The fire started about 3:45 a.m. Friday inside a home in the 2800 block of N. 4th Street near Cambria Street. Philadelphia Fire Commissioner Derrick Sawyer said a family member initially tried to fight the fire alone.

1 killed as raging fire destroys home in Tacoma neighborhood

One person was killed in a raging fire that destroyed a Tacoma home in moments early Friday, officials said. Crews responded to the blaze, near East Spokane Street and East 40th Street, at around midnight after receiving reports of smoke and flames spewing from the home. By the time firefighters arrived, the house was fully ablaze.

South Whidbey man accused of burning own house over grudge with neighbor

A Mutiny Bay man who was heard yelling "Burn, (expletive), burn" outside his house as flames spread through the living room is accused of setting his own house on fire over a grudge with his neighbor. Michael Johnson, 45, was charged in Island County Superior Court on Jan. 4 with felony arson. If convicted, he could spend between 31-41 months in a state prison under the standard sentencing range.
