The office of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Preet Bharara, which recently won the conviction of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver on corruption charges, has taken over the inquiry into the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department and its missing millions of dollars in taxpayer funds. Bharara’s involvement comes as The Journal News has learned of the extensive financial ties between Putnam County law enforcement and a company owned by Michael Klein, the department’s former treasurer, who resigned in late September as the investigation heated up.

The Vancouver Fire Marshal’s office shut down a downtown hip-hop nightclub Friday night because C-Tran’s construction on a bus rapid transit center is blocking access to the business’s rear exit, making the building unsafe for occupancy.
“Our No. 1 concern is for fire and life safety,” said Fire Marshal Heidi Scarpelli.

Winter is just about here and that means most of us are cranking up our heaters trying to keep warm through the months ahead, but as we found out on Monday the Yakima Fire Department says they're seeing a rise in carbon monoxide exposure.
Our local hospitals have seen a rise over the past couple of weeks with several patients coming in with flu like symptoms that have turned out to be carbon monoxide poisoning.
