D.C. Rally for Extension of Zadroga Act for 9/11 Responders

Fire Engineering Editor in Chief Bobby Halton is in Washington, D.C., attending a demonstration by 9/11 firefighters and police seeking extension of the Zadroga Act, which provides health care for those responders suffering deleterious effects of working at Ground Zero in the wake of the attacks.

Yakima firefighters free curious cat from behind water heater

Curiosity caught this cat behind a water heater, but a creative crew of Yakima firefighters cleared her from captivity. A resident in the 1100 block of North 22nd Avenue called the fire department’s downtown station about 10:25 a.m. Wednesday to report that he was concerned because he had found his cat, 7-year-old Tabitha, stuck in a narrow cavity between the water heater and two adjoining walls, Capt.

Firefighters Respond to House Fire in Centralia

Fire crews are not yet sure what started a house fire that caused extensive damage to a vacant home on North Tower Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Riverside Fire Authority and Chehalis Fire Department crews responded at about 2:10 p.m. Tuesday afternoon to a report of a house fire in the 900 block of North Tower Avenue in Centralia.
