Pernett sworn in as North Whatcom Fire and Rescue fire chief

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR) has a new fire chief. William Pernett, who served as interim fire chief for three months after former chief Ron Anderson resigned, was officially sworn in during the NWFR fire commissioner’s meeting on September 17. Pernett and his family transferred to Whatcom County from Tucson, Arizona in 2014, when Pernett was hired as division chief of operations.

2 killed, dozens hurt as 'Duck' vehicle, bus collide on Aurora Bridge in Seattle

Two people were killed and dozens were injured when a "Ride the Ducks" vehicle plowed into the side of a BellAir tour bus Wednesday on the Aurora Bridge, officials said. Nine of the injured were reported to be in critical condition. All lanes of the bridge were closed by the crash and are expected to remain closed for hours.

New York EMS chief killed in crash between ambulance and backhoe

For his entire adult life, Barry Miller was a giver and “a huge figure in the town of Bergen.” That was evident in the outpouring of grief in Bergen Wednesday after Miller, chief of Fire Department Emergency Medical Services and a county coroner, was killed on his way to a call in Riga. “His connection to the community is indescribable,” said Donald Cunningham, town supervisor and close friend of Miller’s.

Stricken South Carolina firefighter dies

Stuart Hardy, the Burton firefighter who suffered a medical event while on duty Sept. 13, died Thursday morning, according a Burton Fire District news release and a Facebook post from his family. Hardy was responding to a car crash earlier this month when he was stricken. Doctors didn't know as of Wednesday what caused the event.
