Burned Fresno Fire Captain leaves hospital to continue rehabilitation at home

After nearly six months in the hospital, Pete Dern is home. The Fresno fire captain received severe burns when he fell through the roof while trying to put out a house fire. A huge crowd turned out to cheer him on as he left Community Regional Medical Center Wednesday afternoon. This day for Pete Dern started like the past 163 others, with a round of treatment and physical therapy.

Port Angeles man dies in early morning house fire

A man died in an early morning house fire today, Port Angeles police said. Police and fire officials are investigating the fire at 218 E. Lopez Ave., Deputy Police Chief Brian Smith said. The fire began at about 5:30 a.m., he said. A man in his mid-50s to 60s was found dead inside the house, Smith said.
