A year-old plan to cross-train Alexandria firefighters and paramedics and add a fourth person to every firetruck is encountering resistance from city paramedics, who say it is unworkable unless the city hires more staff.
Alexandria Fire Chief Robert Dubé said that his plan will ensure that at least one person in every fire crew will be certified in advanced life support.

Five people were injured Monday evening when a fire broke out inside a Capitol Hill apartment building.
The fire started sometime after 5: 30 p.m. on the first floor of an apartment building in the 1500 block of Boylston Avenue East.
Seattle firefighters arrived on scene moments later and quickly began rescuing occupants and putting water on the blaze.
