Lightning-sparked fires are forcing some evacuations in Chelan County. Chelan County Emergency Management posted on Facebook that there are mandatory Level 3 evacuations on Little Butte Road. Level 2 evacuations, in which residents are prompted to be ready to leave at a moment’s notice, are being issued for all the canyons off Chelan Butte road.

A man convicted in an arson that killed a Detroit firefighter will be returning to court for his sentence — for a third time. The Michigan appeals court threw out Mario Willis’ 41-year prison sentence Wednesday and took a Wayne County judge off the case. Willis was accused of paying a handyman $20 to burn down his girlfriend’s abandoned house in 2008.

The New Mexico Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a city of Albuquerque rule that prevents city employees from running for office. Earlier this year, Emily Kane, an Albuquerque fire captain with more than 20 years of experience, successfully proved in district court that the city was wrong to essentially force her to choose between her career and her desire to run for state legislature.

A volunteer firefighter was arrested and charged with threatening a fellow firefighter with a knife, police said Thursday.The incident occurred on May 27 in an Eighth Utilities District fire station break room, police spokesman Capt. Christopher Davis said. Another firefighter was poking fun at Gates after Gates sneezed, Davis said.
