Fire crews continue to mop up hot spots and shore up fire lines around the Williams Lake Fire, which is now at 332 acres and 40-percent containment. The fire started Friday around 2:50 pm two miles north of Colville. Crews are working Monday to strengthen fire lines and mop up hot spots along the fire lines as well as inside the fire perimeter while specialized crews are knocking down hazardous trees within the fire's perimeter.

A South King Fire and Rescue firefighter was injured on Fourth of July while battling a house fire. Fire started by fireworks destroyed a machine shop in the Everson area early Sunday, July 5, but firefighters were able to save a nearby barn and home. Chief Mel Blankers of Whatcom County Fire District 1 said several members of his all-volunteer fire department were staffing a station because of the hot, dry weather and provided a quick response to the fire at 278 Reed Lane, near Blair Drive.
