Fireworks likely cause of Port Orchard house fire

The Fourth of July may be over, but many people are still using fireworks and keeping fire crews busy. One Kitsap County home was completely destroyed, and another was damaged. Firefighters believe fireworks are to blame. When Patricia Franklin’s neighbors banged on her door this afternoon, she looked out and saw huge clouds of smoke and flames coming from one of the homes behind hers.

Crews strengthening lines around Williams Lake Fire

Fire crews continue to mop up hot spots and shore up fire lines around the Williams Lake Fire, which is now at 332 acres and 40-percent containment. The fire started Friday around 2:50 pm two miles north of Colville. Crews are working Monday to strengthen fire lines and mop up hot spots along the fire lines as well as inside the fire perimeter while specialized crews are knocking down hazardous trees within the fire's perimeter.

Firefighter injured in fireworks-related Federal Way house fire

A South King Fire and Rescue firefighter was injured on Fourth of July while battling a house fire. Firefighters responded to a house located in the 900 block of SW 346th Court in Federal Way after a 911 call came in at 3:38 p.m. that day. Firefighters pulled down the ceiling to make sure there was no fire between the sheet rock and roofing, according to Capt.

New Washington wildfire law takes effect this month

When it charred more than 250,000 acres last summer, the Carlton Complex wildfire became the largest in state history. And this summer, it's prompting a change to state law. On July 24, House Bill 2093 takes effect in Washington. The state received a lot of criticism over its response to the Carlton Complex fire, because some people felt the Department of Natural Resources' response was far too slow.
