Retired Beaverton Fire Chief Oscar "Sox" Lee, one of the people responsible for Oregon's modern day firefighting techniques, died June 24 at age 92.
Sox, as his friends called him, understood the importance of training firefighters having spent decades as one, himself, said Brian Bay, who worked with Lee as a deputy state fire marshal.

Two people were killed and five others were taken to a hospital - including a firefighter - after an apartment fire in Old Louisville Thursday morning.
Fire Chief Greg Frederick said other people might still be inside the three-story building in the 1100 block of South Second Street. WAVE 3 News' Katherine Kington reported at 10 a.

Vashon’s fire department has been fined $900 and has increased its training after the state Department of Labor & Industries (L&I) issued a citation earlier this year. The penalty stems from a house fire one year ago that L&I officials contend Vashon responders did not handle correctly, possibly putting firefighters in danger.

A high-ranking Bellingham Fire Department paramedic has been fired for coming to work with alcohol in his bloodstream, according to public records obtained by The Bellingham Herald.
Sean Patrick Farnand, 46, a paramedic captain and a training program leader for Whatcom Medic One, has filed grievances with the city through the local firefighters’ union in hopes of getting his job reinstated.
