Car fire at the gas pumps in Elma

The Shell Station in Elma was evacuated for a short time Thursday afternoon after a car caught fire near the station’s gas pumps. No one was injured during the fire, said Elma Fire Battalion Chief Tyson Boling. Boling said the car was in flamesat the South Third Street gas station when Elma Fire responded around noon.

Flag Lowering-WSU President Elson Floyd (6/27/15)‏

Governor Inslee is deeply saddened by the death of Elson Floyd, president of Washington State University, and directs that Washington State and United States flags at all state agency facilities be lowered to half-staff in his memory on Saturday, June 27, 2015. Elson Floyd, 59, died on June 20 after suffering from complications due to colon cancer.

The Governor’s Office has no objection to agencies lowering the flags at the close of business on Friday, June 26, 2015. Flags should remain at half-staff until close of business or sunset on Saturday, June 27 or first thing Monday morning, June 29, 2015...

Centralia Firefighters Union honors Centralia Police Officer Neil Hoium

We can’t all be firefighters, but a select few in Centralia can become honorary firefighters. The Centralia Firefighters Local 451 named Centralia Police Officer Neil Hoium an Honorary Firefighter at the Riverside Fire Authority’s Board of Governance meeting Wednesday evening. The union has given out the award a handful of times since its creation in 1999, said firefighter Mark Stahl, who organized this year’s award.

Joyce firefighters first in Clallam to receive state-of-art equipment

Clallam County Fire District No. 4 says it has become the first in the county to obtain a newly certified self-contained breathing apparatus. Recently approved by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the new MSA brand G1 equipment provides firefighters with increased visibility, longer attack times and warning signals to let them know the status of each other's air supply at a glance, according to a news release.

Anacortes assistant chief retiring after 31 years with fire department

After 31 years with the Anacortes Fire Department, Assistant Chief John Bird is retiring. His last day is Tuesday. The position is temporarily being filled by Nick Walsh, who has been provisionally appointed to division chief. Fire Chief Richard Curtis said the assistant chief position, which oversees training and EMS, is really too much for one person to do.
