Sedro-Woolley Fire Department has record month

The Sedro-Woolley Fire Department recently had its busiest month in its history. During December, the department responded to 375 calls, surpassing the previous record of 355 set in September 2011. “We really don’t have a reason for that increase,” Sedro-Woolley Fire Chief Frank Wagner said. “There really wasn’t any rhyme or reason for it that we can see.

As Cost of Steamboat (CO) Fire Station, City Hall Project Approaches $34M, Fire District Warns Its Budget Can’t Keep Up

Cost increases estimated for the new Steamboat Springs fire station and city hall project are now exceeding what the Steamboat Area Fire Protection District says it can contribute, steamboatpilot.com reported.

The district’s agreement with the city outlines that it needs to pay a third of the costs for the new station. A fire official warned city council Tuesday the district has “significant concerns” about its ability to come up with its share, the report said.

Projected costs for the fire station alone have grown 15.5%, the report said.

Together, the costs for the new buildings are now about $33.7 million, according to the report.

Members of council indicated they might be open to adding a cost ceiling to the project for the fire district’s portion, with the city likely picking up the added cost overruns, the report said. Council directed staff to continue to explore financing options with the fire district board, but didn’t make any official decisions.
