We all hear and see them in our community virtually every day, fire trucks and first responders responding to fire calls.
Many times, those calls turn out to be false alarms and fire officials across the nation and our region say they have seen the number of false alarms increasing and that’s creating an unnecessary risk to the public and first responders.

An FDNY lieutenant received a life-saving lung transplant from fallen firefighter William “Billy” Moon — and, in a heartfelt tribute from his hospital bed, thanked the hero’s widow for donating her late husband’s organs.
Lt. Terrence Jordan is among five people — and two members of New York’s Bravest — to whom Moon’s organs were donated after the 47-year-old dad of two died during a training accident at his Brooklyn firehouse in December.

VIDEO: A Fort Worth Fire Department truck was stolen on Wednesday night in south Fort Worth while the members of its crew were treating a patient, the department said.
A person purloined Engine 17 from the Delux Inn near South Freeway and East Seminary Drive. Its crew arrived at the motel at 7:42 p.

An early morning fire left a Yakima machine shop in shambles, according to a post from Yakima Firefighters IAFF Local 469.
Fire crews say they responded to a structure fire in the 600 block of West Washington.
They say the fire quickly spread throughout the shop, Marvin Mayhak & Son's Inc. due to the machinery inside.

Rich Langford would probably agree that he was made for a job in the fire service.
A longtime paramedic and firefighter, he always went after the toughest assignments.
Now, he has a job no other African American has ever held at Everett Fire. He’s the department’s newest battalion chief. Why, he was asked, did it take so long?
