Willshire (OH) Asks County for New Fire Station

Officials with the Village of Willshire have asked Van Wert County officials to help fund a new fire station, TimesBulletin.com reported.

The commissioners previously rejected the proposal to use COVID relief money to help pay for the new building which is proposed to be located south of the current building on Simpson Street, the report said.

The current fire station was built in 1929 and has undergone several renovations throughout the years, according to the report.

The department has four trucks with only a three-bay fire station. The mini-pumper is parked across the street in an unheated building, the report said.

Willshire’s fire department is expected to receive a new fire truck sometime in early 2024 and would like to have a new building to house it in, the report said.

The cost of a new fire station, based on one estimate, is more than $200,000, according to the report.
