The town of Alfred is putting a 1995 Freightliner FLD70 on the auction block and taking bids from the public, wjbq.com reported. 

The nearly 28-year-old truck has a Cummings diesel engine, a 1,000-gallon tank and 46,409 miles on it, the report said.

So far, there have been 42 bids with the highest at $99,000, according to the report.

Elon’s municipal leaders learned recently about the temporary loss of a fire engine, which encountered some maintenance issues on Monday – and ran off the road while it was being hauled off to the repair shop by a tow truck, alamancenews.com reported.

A fire official reported to the town council Tuesday that the engine’s run of bad luck began when its driver noticed something wrong with the vehicle’s brakes on the way back from an emergency call Monday morning, the report said. A wrecker was called to take the three-year-old engine in for a tune up.

The tow truck driver apparently lost control of his own vehicle and wound up in a ditch – dragging along the town’s fire engine behind him, the report said.

The fire official conceded that it’s unclear just how much damage the fire engine sustained in this accident. It appears to be repairable. The department will put its backup engine in service in the meantime.

Lake City Fire Station No. 2 was scheduled to be completed by Jan. 10, but got pushed back because of supply chain issues, wcjb.com reported.

Officials said electrical panels did not arrive on time, the report said.

Firefighters said the delay may be a good thing for the department because they can train incoming firefighters a little longer with protocol and responding to calls, according to the report.

The new $2.7 million station will bring the opportunity for faster services in the east and west side of town.

Fire officials are expecting the new station to be finished in about two weeks.

Bixby announced the groundbreaking of the city’s new fire station headquarters is set for Jan. 17, 2023, fox23.com reported.

The facility will be a critical part of Bixby Fire Department’s EMS service, as established and approved in a previous bond proposition in 2021, the report said.

For more than 40 years, Bixby Fire Station No. 1 has been located downtown, serving as headquarters for the department. But due to community growth, a matching growth in services has become necessary, the report said.

With this new 29,000 square-foot expansion, the fire department will also be able to expand its number of ambulances, according to the report.

The new headquarters will have five drive-thru bays, a four-story training tower, administrative offices and housing to hold up to 14 firefighters, firefighting apparatus, ambulances and equipment, the report said.

An Emergency Operations Center will also be housed in the new facility, along with meeting and training space, the report said.

A launch date for a staffed EMS Service at the new Fire Station No. 1 is planned for January 2024.
