Follow-up: Spokane Valley firefighting recruits come from all over to fill understaffed department

At the Spokane Valley fire station on Pioneer Lane, future firefighters are getting schooled. “You wanna drop your nozzle," one instructor tells a small group of trainees. For the next 18 weeks, fifteen new recruits will learn the ropes. ”Once we get these basics down, the crawl stage, then we speed up, make the process a little bit faster," said Captain Shawn Pichette.

Person injured in rollover, entrapment in Everett

A person was injured after rolling a car in Everett on Sunday morning, according to the Everett Fire Department. Just before 9 a.m. Sunday, crews with Everett Fire Department responded to a report of an overturned and smoking vehicle on southbound Interstate 5 at the Southeast Everett Mall Way exit.

Hoquiam, Aberdeen firefighters respond to air fryer fire

The Hoquiam and Aberdeen fire departments responded to a fire Saturday evening across from the Grizzly Den. A kitchen appliance has been identified as the source of the fire, which occurred in a duplex housing structure, said Hoquiam Fire Chief Matt Miller. The initial call just before 7 p.m. was that an air fryer had started the fire in the home, located at the corner of Spencer and Emerson Street.

Bay (AR) Fire Department Gets New Gas Detection Equipment

The Bay Fire Department announced last week on Facebook it had received and put in service a Draeger X-am 2500 multi-gas meter.

This multi-gas meter has the ability to detect four types of gas: LELs, carbon monoxide, ambient oxygen levels, and hydrogen sulfide. This meter will aide the department during incidents like gas odors, and carbon monoxide emergencies, as well as hazardous materials incidents, the fire department said.
