Mission Statement

The objectives of this Division shall be to further enhance the education of all Fire Service Administrative Support by conducting workshops and seminars; to increase the proficiency of Fire Administrative Support by establishing a network sharing of information systems through various channels of communication; and to faciliate a statewide standardization wherever possible in all phases and aspects of the Fire Administrative Support field for the benefit of the Fire Service.

After months of public battles, the city reached a deal with the firefighters union Thursday on the partial restoration of disability benefits — while also agreeing on a tentative seven-year employment contract. The pension deal would restore firefighters hired after 2009 to a 75 percent retirement benefit if injured — up from 50 percent of final salary — but would require they contribute an additional 3 percent of their pay to help fund it.

Mayor Mitch Landrieu and the New Orleans City Council have until Aug. 21 to begin paying firefighters a judgment worth a potential $142 million, or they will be held in contempt, a Civil District Court judge told officials Thursday (Aug. 6). The council is scheduled to meet the day before the deadline, Judge Kern Reese said.

The Three Rivers Fire Chief Scott Turner has filed an Open Meeting Law complaint against the committee that supervises him. According to the Turner complaint, the board met on June 10 in executive session to discuss problems they had with him – without informing him, nor inviting the chief to attend that closed door meeting.

PHOTO: Firefighters saved a man dangling by his legs from wires three stories above the ground after he fell off a Brooklyn rooftop and got entangled on his way down, FDNY officials said Wednesday. When fire trucks arrived on Hooper St. near S. 2nd St. in Williamsburg about 7 p.m. Tuesday, smoke-eaters were shocked to see the man hanging precariously above them.

“Complacency in response” and a lack of investigation helped lead to St. Johns County firefighters missing a condominium blaze last month that burned unrecognized for more than 45 minutes, a report released Thursday said. A dispatcher was fired and a firefighter quit over the finding of that review by county officials, which listed “inactions and missed opportunities” surrounding the reaction to the July 13 fire that ravaged the Belleza at Ponte Vedra condos.

Amanda Swain took the latest photo of the masked firefighter holding his most provocative sign yet. This one berated Memphis Mayor AC Wharton for speaking about the death of Memphis police officer, Sean Bolton, when retired police and firefighters have had their health care benefits slashed. “I hate that it was pretty out there, but at the same time I think that if we get a little bit louder and a little big out there,” Swain said.

A Richland man was sentenced Wednesday to one year and three months in prison for attacking four firefighters as they tried to extinguish a small blaze in his apartment. Nelson Aguayo was awaiting trial on that case when he slapped a nurse at Kadlec Regional Medical Center, destroyed medical equipment and spit on a Richland police officer.

Costs to battle massive, explosive wildfires have decimated the budget of the U.S. Forest Service charged with fighting the blazes, according to a new report released Wednesday. For the first time in its 110-year history, the U.S. Forest Service says it spends more than 50% of its annual budget on firefighting at the expense of other programs to prevent the infernos.
