Oshkosh Fire & Emergency Segment is displaying the new Oshkosh® Striker® ARFF vehicle at China Fire 2021.

APPLETON, Wis. (October 11, 2021) – Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE:OSK) Fire & Emergency segment is displaying the new Oshkosh® Striker® ARFF vehicle at China Fire 2021. The new vehicle will be displayed at Oshkosh’s China Fire booth, located at site E1-04. In addition to the new Striker ARFF, the booth will feature the latest fire and emergency vehicles and technology.

China is also one of the largest aviation markets globally. At China Fire 2021, the next generation Striker ARFF vehicle will be unveiled on October 12 at 12:00 pm at Oshkosh’s China Fire booth. According to a report from The Tifton Gazette, Tift County (GA) Commission is considering purchasing 50 single-band Unication G4 P25 pagers to significantly improve dispatch and response time for the Tift County Fire/Rescue (TCFR) department.

Fire/Rescue Chief Joey Fowler proposed the new items for use by county firefighters to the Board of Commissioners. The total cost for the pagers would be $30,250, with an additional $1,000 to program the pagers.

The TCFR currently uses an analog VHF radio with an 800-MegaHertz (mHZ) radio system for dispatch for use by paid personnel, and the analog VHF is meant for volunteer firefighters.

Fowler said implementing the pagers would allow all TCFR personnel to be alerted to emergencies and dispatched on a unified radio system, greatly increasing response and dispatch times.

He told County Commission that the pagers have already been tested and the purchase would come out of the county’s contingency fund, meaning it would not have to be budgeted. 

Commissioners agreed to further discuss the purchase. 

The Rowlett (TX) Fire Department recently held an open house for the grand opening of its Station 2 and training facility.

On Saturday at 10 a.m., the new facility—located at 8602 Schrade Rd.—was open to the public for tours. Its central location aims to increase response times.

A report on starlocalmedia.com says Station 2 will feature more security than the previous, 1980s-era Station 2; some parts will be accessible by the public, though the building’s main part will require a key card. It will have state-of-the-art emergency ops, be energy efficient, and cost $7.3 million, officials say.

City officials say the building will also serve as a community facility.

Firefighters with the DeKalb County (TN) Volunteer Fire Department are preparing to receive a 2021 E-ONE demo fire pumper built on a Freightliner cab and chassis, partially funded with money from a federal grant, according to a report published by WJLE radio station.

WJLE reported the demo truck will go into service at the Liberty Station and was purchased with funds from the Community Facility Services Grant under the USDA Rural Development Program. The grant was for $137,500 and the community matched the grant with $115,000 from taxpayer funding to meet the cost of the new truck, according to the report.

DeKalb volunteers had hoped to find a brand new apparatus, but budget limitations would not cover that expense, so the demonstrator with 4,000 miles was selected, the radio station reported, adding that the apparatus is basic with the firefighters needing to purchase shelving and loose equipment, like hoses, axes, flashlights and other loose equipment. The sale of three homemade fire trucks will help fund the purchases to get the apparatus into service, according to the station.

The engine the demonstrator replaces, a 2006 model, will be sent to Temperance Hall Fire Station and the 1996 model from that station will be moved to Austin Bottoms Community Fire station to replace a 1987 model that will be moved to reserve and the 1979 model that’s currently in reserve will be removed from service and sold, the radio station reported.
