Athens NY (VFD) Considering Fire Apparatus Purchase

Athens Volunteer Fire Department and local officials are considering a purchase of a $750,000 fire truck to replace a 1990 fire truck, reports Hudson Valley 360.

The department has been working on the design and plans for a new truck and is close to finalizing the plan. The new truck would be an engine tanker with a 2,000-gallon water capacity.

The plan being considered is to put payments that are currently going to pay the bond for construction of the fire station toward the truck purchase. The fire station was built in 2002 and the 20-year bond will be paid in full next year.

Once the board votes on the purchase, the community would have 30 days to put together a petition calling for a vote.

A consideration toward the fire truck purchase is COVID-19’s impact on steel and computer chips.

Dallas (TX) Apartment Fire Injures Seven, Including Four Firefighters

Video via fox4news.com

Four firefighters and three residents were injured this morning during an explosion at an apartment complex in Oak Cliff (TX), reports fox4news.com. Three of the firefighters are in critical condition.

The video from fox4news.com shows smoke coming from the roof of a two-story building that had partially collapsed in the Highland Hills Apartments near Interstate 45 and Simpson Stuart Road. Debris was scattered around the corner of the building near the collapse.

Crews were on the scene initially for a possible natural gas leak, after residents reported a strong gas smell. While firefighters were investigating, the explosion occurred, according to the report.

Atmos Energy and hazmat crews were called to the scene, the report says. Local, state, and federal agencies will be investigating the cause of the explosion.
