Kitchener (Canada) council recently approved buying two fire trucks and three aerial ladder trucks for a total of $7 million, reports therecord.com.

Some council members were against the plan, saying it should have gone through a tender process, the report says.

However, the plan is expected to be included in the city’s capital budget, which is on track to receive final approval next week.

In October, Kitchener approved a plan to hire 20 firefighters and open a new downtown station in 2026, the report says. The operating costs of hiring the firefighters is estimated at $2.6 million over four years, while building the new station will be about $5 million.

The Ottawa (Canada) Fire Department wants to purchase a new Pierce tower truck, reports 1430wcmy.com.

Officials say the current ladder failed an annual test and the department had to pay around $4,000 for repairs. They add that if it fails this year, the ladder will be shut down.

The city could pay for the apparatus over several years, the report says. Though it would still take between 13 and 17 months for delivery.
