The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Livonia (NY) Fire Department Receives Engine 255

The Livonia (NY) Fire Department recently received its new custom-built Engine 255.

The department’s truck committee began the process of building this apparatus—Spartan-built on a 2020 chassis—in early 2019.

It holds 1,250 gallons of water with a 1,500-gpm pump and can transport eight firefighters with air packs. Training will begin shortly, the department notes.

San Diego (CA) Fire-Rescue Department Deploys Helicopter to Rescue Three People

The San Diego (CA) Fire-Rescue Department deployed a rescue helicopter over the weekend to rescue three people stuck on a rock in Mission Trails Regional Park off Mission Gorge Road in East County, reports 10news.com.

The incident was reported at 3:08 p.m. Sunday, and fire-rescue crews arrived by 3:16 p.m. at 8300 Father Junipero Serra Trail in East County, officials say.

The helicopter lifted the three people from the rock around 3:30 p.m. and dropped them off near a fire truck, an official says. Aside from dehydration, the three were not injured.

CMC LevR Escape System

LEVR Escape System with Flash.G and Flash.2 and the BT Escape System

Designed to assure rapid emergency egress with safe, controllable descent, the LEVR Escape System is built around the CMC LEVR descender, a next-generation device that uses its lever-shaped handle for progressive descent control, fast and easy horizontal pay-out, reliable edge transition, and intuitive operation. The LEVR Escape System now has two anchor options, Flash.G and Flash.2, both certified to NFPA standards as emergency escape anchors and escape descent control devices. The new Flash.G is gated for efficient remote anchor and has a deployment tether option.
