Lafayette officials are considering increased funding for a new fire station, reports Daily Advertiser.

Lafayette Consolidated Government has budgeted $1.7 million to replace the old fire station. The administration is asking the City Council to consider plans to set aside $1.25 million for additional funding to complete the project. If the City Council agrees, the decision will go for a final vote on June 15.

The Sheldon City Council approved a lease agreement for a 2005 Pierce Platform aerial fire truck, reports nwestiowa.com.

The council also discussed with members of the fire department whether a new or used aerial fire truck is needed immediately or even if the department should replace the aerial.

The Sheldon Fire Co. 1994 Spartan aerial was damaged when it struck a large branch in March. The Iowa Communities Assurance Pool deemed the aerial totaled and the fire department has been searching for a used aerial truck since.

East Visali VFD will move out of shared accommodations with Cal Fire and move to a new fire station, reports Visalia Times Delta.

In 2006, the city leased an engine bay and one building for the firefighters’ living quarters. Those quarters have become cramped and the bay no longer fits the department’s current engines. A lot that will likely be used for the future fire station was purchased for $294,000.

Staffing levels will remain the same between the current station and the planned new station, as will response times.
