West Jordan Fire celebrated the arrival of two new fire trucks, reports My City Journals.

In addition to a wet-down ceremony, a bagpiper and flag ceremony welcomed the trucks and the crowd in attendance.

The two new trucks cost $700,000 and will replace trucks that will now be reserved in the fleet. The new trucks have a 500-gallon water tank capacity and a 1,500-gallon-per-minute pump.

The Salem (OH) Fire Department recently received Engine 2—its 2021 Sutphen pumper, which officials hope will help with reliability and quicker access to life-saving tools, reports salemnews.net.

The biggest difference between Engine 2 and its predecessor is that all of the power equipment on it is battery powered. And about 80% of its tools are new, with some equipment being switched over from old Engine 2. The new apparatus can carry 1,000 gallons of water and can pump 2,000 gallons per minute.

The apparatus was ordered last year and manufactured by Sutphen in Ohio. Once the truck was built and passed inspection, it was delivered to Springfield for Fire and Marine Inc. to install custom shelves and cabinets, and new equipment.

The truck itself was $562,000, but the total cost after adding all the equipment was $670,000. City officials say the city secured a five-year note of $670,000 from Farmers National Bank at 2.35 percent to pay for the truck. The loan payment is $75,961 per year. After five years, the note will be rewritten.

Plans call for the eventual posting on govdeals.com of old Engine 2—a 2004 American LaFrance, which was used for medicals and had logged 7,732 hours.

A dozen residents of the Lostine Canyon (OR) Firewise Community (LCFC) recently met for an orientation with Brush 1—LCFC’s new truck, which came via donation from the Coulee City (WA) Fire Department (CCFD), reports wallowa.com.

The 1988 Ford F-350 4×4 has only 31,000 miles on it, and it was selected because it’s easy to operate, was in great shape, and boasts the proper equipment for a quick response to a brush fire.

Officials say the immediate availability of the apparatus will allow residents to contain a fire for the 15 minutes or so before the arrival of Wallowa County’s multiagency wildland fire emergency responders.

The orientation will be repeated on a regular basis for interested residents to maintain proficiency.

URBANA, OH – Sutphen Corporation, the nation’s largest family-owned and operated fire apparatus manufacturer with headquarters in Dublin, OH, announced plans to combine its three Urbana manufacturing and service sites in a new 160,000-square-foot facility to be constructed at State Route 55 and Edgewood Avenue in Urbana.

With this plan, Sutphen will retain the three Urbana facilities’ 160 existing jobs and add 20 to 25 more positions at the new site.

Sutphen also considered a site in Pennsylvania and other locations in Ohio.

The new building will be built northeast of the intersection of State Route 55 and Edgewood Avenue, on 55 acres of land that will provide Sutphen ample room for further expansion in the future.

Julie Sutphen Phelps, a fourth-generation family member, vice president of Sutphen Corporation and president of Sutphen’s Hilliard, OH, facility, said, “This expansion allows our family-owned business to continue to grow and expand within Urbana and the fire industry as a whole. The new building is being designed to optimize workflow of fire apparatus manufacturing, from start to finish, and will combine the operations of Sutphen’s three current Urbana facilities – the Sutphen Service & Technical Division, 49 N. Ludlow Rd. Urbana; the Sutphen Urbana Chassis Division, 1701 W. County Line Rd., Urbana; and the Sutphen Urbana Pumper Division, 1653 W. County Line Rd., Urbana.

Ground will be broken in August or September and Sutphen officials anticipate moving into the new building in the fall of 2022.
