No Bidders for Lake Wateree (SC) Fire Station Construction

Not a single company bid for a new Lake Wateree fire station, reports The Voice.

Fire officials weren’t sure of the reason but thought it may be due to the design and increased construction material prices.

Given the high price of lumber, it is also unclear if the fire station can be built for the budgeted $375,000, which was approved by town officials.

Haverhill (MA) Welcomes Fire Apparatus

The fire department has welcomed two pumper fire trucks, reports The Eagle-Tribune.

The purchase had some political turmoil as city councilors rejected the mayor’s budget until he agreed to purchase the new vehicles.

The two trucks were built by Pierce and are fully certified according to National Fire Protection Agency standards.

The new trucks will allow older vehicles to be rotated through the department’s four stations. The department now has eight ladder trucks, two pumper trucks and a rescue truck

Lebanon (OR) Fire Station Construction Delayed

The rising cost of building materials will cause a delay of construction of a fire station, reports Albany Democrat-Herald.

The delay will push the completion of the project into mid-2023. A fire official said the department is adjusting its plans to make best possible use of the 26-year, $16 million bond.

In the interim, the fire department has moved its offices to the MBVA Building. The department plans to move two trailers onto the site and place offices in one and sleeping quarters in the other. Most of the fire engines and other vehicles will be housed in the service building on the back of the lot

Focus is on our mission of life safety for civilians, protection of our members using the kill box concept and tactical use of sweeping search procedures for large buildings with major uncontrolled leaks. It fills a huge training void that exists in strategy, tactics and training your members for natural gas emergencies, meter use and response procedures. Take homes from this program include: FD use of new laser based technology for explosive gas emergency size up, new tactics and strategies, sample/model SOPs and new innovative/creative/cost effective training methods and props that attendees can use in their home departments.

45-year veteran firefighter/EMT with the West Haverstraw (NY) Fire Department and a training officer with the Rockland County Fire Training Center in Pomona, NY. He is chief of the Rockland County Hazmat Team, a former nationally certified paramedic, and a technical panel member for the Underwriters Laboratories research on fire attack at residential fires. He recently retired from the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, as the plans officer, Directorate of Emergency Services. He is the co-author of the book House Fires, the author of the Fire Attack chapter in Fire Engineering’s Handbook for Firefighter I and II, and the author of numerous articles for Fire Engineering.
