Westmoreland (NH) Seeks Approval of $2.2M Fire Station

Voters in Westmoreland, NH, will be asked to consider appropriating $2.27 million for a new fire station when they head to the polls for the town’s annual meeting next month, according to the Keene Sentinel/Sentinelsource.

The current fire station, built in 1954, is too small and too close to the road to sufficiently accommodate modern fire apparatus and all the equipment necessary to run the department, firefighters told the newspaper.

The new fire station at 6,400 square feet in area, is nearly double the size of the current building and will be located on a new site behind the community’s Town Hall.

Decontamination zones will be incorporated in the new fire station if three fifths of the voters approve the appropriation, according to the newspaper.

Westmoreland currently has six trucks and 23 firefighters, according to the paper.
