IL Fire Dept. Orders $1.2M Quint

Firefighters in Geneva, IL, expect to be responding with a brand new quint next year after alderman gave approval to spend up to $1.2 million on the new apparatus, according to a report in the Daily Herald.

The new apparatus will be a Pierce Enforcer 110-foot PUC quint platform aerial and will replace a 1994 aerial that had fallen into disrepair, the paper reported.

The purchase had been delayed a year by the city alderman who were concerned the corona virus pandemic would adversely affect finances, according the Daily Herald.

The apparatus is expected to be delivered sometime in mid 2022 with a build time of 12 to 14 months.

Fire-Dex Launches Non-Fluorinated PPE Fabrics

Medina, Ohio – February 17, 2021 – Fire-Dex, a family-owned global PPE manufacturer for first responders, is thrilled to announce the launch of TECGEN71+ and TECGEN51+ PPE fabrics built with an eco-friendly PFAS free water-repellent finish that addresses customer demands and improves sustainability.

Exclusive to Fire-Dex, TECGEN71+ and TECGEN51+ are fabrics built with the same configuration as their traditional TECGEN71 and TECGEN51 materials but offer a new PFAS free DWR finish.

“We have partnered with Milliken to develop a non-fluorinated version of our exclusive materials utilizing innovative technology to create an eco-friendly, water resistant formula that meets the increasing market demand for PFAS free PPE material options,” states Todd Herring, Vice President of Product Innovation and Strategy at Fire-Dex.

Fire-Dex’s TECGEN71+ NFPA 1971 outer shell is designed to lessen heat stress by reducing weight and increasing flexibility. Turnouts crafted with TECGEN71+ are the lightest, thinnest, and most breathable in the fire industry. TECGEN51+ is a NFPA 1951 and 1977 fabric option for alternative PPE that provides optimal strength, breathability, and thermal protection for all non-fire related calls.

“Our mission is to Serve Those Who Serve and I am extremely proud of our strong team of innovators for addressing this growing demand by continuing to develop solutions to protect first responders across the globe,” states Steve Allison, President of Fire-Dex.

Fire-Dex also offers non-fluorinated NFPA 1971 fabrics from Safety Components with their PF Zero™ water-repellent finish including PBI Max™ LP, PBI Max™ 7oz, and Armor AP™.

Two-Alarm Fire Reported at Western Berks Ambulance (PA) Station

A fire is under investigation at Western Berks Ambulance (PA) station. It’s believed the fire started inside the engine compartment of one of the ambulances, WFMZ reports.

Multiple crews from the surrounding Spring Township-area responded to the two-alarm fire.

Michael Leifer, president of the Western Berks Ambulance Association, told the station one person was sent to the hospital with possible smoke inhalation due to an asthma issue.

The station remains functional, and officials said they have the resources to respond to emergency calls. Two other ambulances are being checked for damage.

Palm Coast (FL) Takes Delivery of $1 Million Fire Apparatus

Palm Coast has taken delivery of an E-One ladder fire truck, reports FlaglerLive.com.

Ladder-25 is a $980,000 truck, plus $40,000 for additional hardware. The 42-foot-long truck gets about 3.2 miles per gallon, carries 500 gallons of water–enough to put out a one-room fire or a car fire at 125 gallons a minute without hooking into a hydrant–and has a ladder that extends 100 feet, with a water cannon that can fire up to 1,250 gallons a minute.

The fire truck is also built with consideration for firefighter health. Oxygen tanks are stored in their own compartment and loud horns have been lowered to the bumper level.

All the lights aboard are now LED, hugely reducing energy demands on the truck’s alternator or the need for what would have been a 10,000-watt generator aboard. Smaller, portable generators are enough.

Firefighters will be trained in early March, including training on aerial operations by E-One.
