Twin Lakes (OK) Fire Station Destroyed by Fire

The Twin Lakes fire station is a total loss after a fire, reports KFOR News 4.

Fire officials said that the cause of the fire may be an ATV that recently had mechanical work.

An assistant fire chief tried to get some of the fire trucks out of the building. He was not able to do so and he was taken to the hospital as a precaution for overexertion.

Students Work on Stoneham Fire Station (MA) Renovations

Thirty students from Northeast Metro Tech will work at the 105-year-old Stoneham Fire Station to help renovate and update the station, reports WickedLocal.com.

The students will relocate the kitchen to the second floor and turn the former kitchen space into a gear storage room, along with various other small projects, such as replacing the wheelchair ramp at the front of the building.

Creating this separation of the working and living areas will help to reduce this risk of exposing firefighters to carcinogens left on gear before it is washed and cleaned after being worn and used for a call.

The students will work in groups of five to adhere to COVID-19 protocols.

Portland, ME, to Add Three Apparatus for $2.7M

Portland, ME, firefighters will soon have three new apparatus to replace equipment with serious safety concerns, according to the Portland Press Herald newspaper.

The paper reported Portland budgeted $2.7 million from its 2022 fiscal year budget which is due to begin in July, the newspaper reported.

For the money, the department will get two new pumpers and an aerial, the paper reported.

The capital outlay is critical at this time with two fire engines out and a third expected to fail inspection this spring, the paper reported. Portland firefighters had hoped to buy five apparatus, but city officials recommended buying only three because of other funding needs in the city, the paper reported.  The fire department might seek to buy another ladder and engine in 2023.
