Oshkosh Airport Products has secured its first order for the new Striker® ARFF vehicle. The newly upgraded vehicle will be delivered to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport Fire Department in summer 2021.

OSHKOSH, WIS. (May 5, 2021) – Oshkosh Airport Products, LLC, an Oshkosh Corporation (NYSE: OSK) Company, announced today that the company has secured its first order for the new Striker ARFF vehicle, which was introduced in January 2021. The newly upgraded Striker ARFF will be delivered to the Minneapolis–Saint Paul International Airport (MSP) Fire Department in late summer 2021. MSP’s new Striker 6×6 ARFF will be an addition to an entirely Oshkosh fleet, and will feature an optimized cockpit, updated body styling, and advanced mobility, speed, and precision.

MSP spans 3,400 acres with four runways and two terminal buildings and is the 17th busiest U.S. airport for passengers and the 12th busiest for aircraft operations. The MSP Fire Department operates out of two fire stations on the campus to enable the staff to respond quickly to emergency events, even when faced with hazardous northern weather conditions.

St. Clairsville (OH) city officials are debating whether to transfer ownership of the station at 142 S. Marietta St. to the Cumberland Trail Fire District, reports timesleaderonline.com.

District ownership of the building, built in 1978, could mean access to more grant funding for upgrades, according to officials. During a recent meeting, officials said there had been discussion of transferring ownership to the district since 2015. The official added that the action was not pursued since 2017, when other matters occupied the city and district.

COVID-19 pandemic obstacles—e.g., proper decontamination and social distancing spaces—have rekindled the talks.

Officials said that if the district takes ownership the first priorities will be a roof, shower facilities, and a diesel exhaust capture system for vehicles in the bay.

The Lower Valley (CO) Fire District now has a 2012 Chevy Tahoe in Fruita district’s emergency fleet, thanks to a donation from Garfield County, reports gjsentinel.com.

The Tahoe—which has 139,000 miles and has been upfitted for use as a patrol vehicle by the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office—is slated to go into immediate use by the fire district.

The apparatus boasts a sale value of around $13,000, but that increases to about $28,000 when factoring in all the work.

The Springfield (MO) Fire Department is building new fire stations, catching up on the maintenance of old ones, and replacing gear on a more regular basis, reports news-leader.com. The spending was made possible by the city’s level property tax, which voters extended indefinitely four years ago.

Some of the projects are relatively small—e.g., resealing and restriping parking lots at stations—but others are much larger.

Replacing Old Stations

The city currently plans to significantly renovate or replace two fire stations over the next couple of years. The city recently held the groundbreaking for its Station 4.

Station 7, built in 1958 and located at 2129 E. Sunshine St., is also on track to be replaced, with construction expected to begin in spring 2022.

New Stations

Construction is expected to start on Station 13—located in the 1900 block of West College Street—this June or July at a cost of $2.7 million.

Station 14 is slated to be built in the northeast corner of West Chestnut Expressway and North Duke Avenue. That one is planned to be designed, bid out, and built as part of a 2026 bond series made possible by the renewed property tax.
