La Crosse’s (WI) Station 4 Now a Historical Landmark

Following plans from the Preservation Alliance of La Crosse (WI), Station 4 is now a historical landmark, throwing a wrench into the La Crosse Fire Department’s redevelopment plans, reports weau.com.

Officials are now shifting focus to Station 2, also on La Crosse’s north side. There’s hope that Station 2 can be relocated to La Crosse Street, with a potential groundbreaking coming this fall.

Officials added that there are discussions going on about how the Station 4 building—which has been situated at the corner of Gillette and Liberty Streets since 1940—could be used in the future. Office space, residential, a community center, or a fire museum are some of the ideas being thrown around.

The report said that, since the property is owned by the City, the City Council does have the option to override the historic landmark designation with a two-thirds majority vote.
