Houston Man Arrested for Stealing Fire Chief’s SUV

Houston, you have a problem.

A man was arrested after he damaged an apartment complex’s leasing office, set it on fire, stole the fire chief’s SUV and led police on a chase that ended at a bar near Hobby Airport, according to a report from Click2Houston.com.

The incident began Sunday night around 10:30 p.m., the report noted, at an apartment complex on East Medical Center Boulevard at Feather Craft Lane. Police say the man used an ax in an attempt to destroy the leasing office before he set it ablaze, which took crews from the Webster Fire Department and Nassau Bay Fire to extinguish.

Authorities said they were in the process of arresting the man when he escaped through an open window, ran around the complex, jumped in the Nassau Bay Fire Chief’s SUV and drove off. The ensuing chase ended in the parking lot of a sports bar near Hobby Airport in southeast Houston, according to the report. The man then jumped out of the vehicle and was later found in the parking lot of a nearby hotel.

New Fire Station Opens in Corryton (TN)

The Rural Metro Fire Department in Knox County, TN, has opened a new station in Corryton, according to a report published by WBIR 10 News.

The television station reported fire crews moved into the new facility on Corryton Road and plan to have an official grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony in May.

On the department’s Facebook page, firefighters thanked their supporters for the new fire station, WBIR reported.

Coral Gables, FL, Puts New Quint in Service

Coral Gables, FL, has just put its second new apparatus in service this year, according to Miami’s Community News.

The new apparatus is a quint with a 100-foot ladder and it will be located at the Doris and Phil Sanford Fire Station three, according to the news report.

Valparaiso (IN) Donates Fire Truck to Gary (IN)

Helping a nearby city, the Valparaiso, IN, Fire Department, donated a 1996 fire truck to Gary, IN, Fire Department, according an article published by the Chicago Tribune.

Valparaiso donated the engine to Gary to help ease the city’s apparatus needs as two trucks were damaged on the job and are out being repaired, the newspaper reported.

Gary has been trying to upgrade its fire fleet and bought five new engines five years ago, the paper reported.
