Jefferson (ME) Voters to Consider Fire Apparatus Purchase

Jefferson residents will consider purchasing a new fire truck to replace two that are more than 30 years old, reports Central Maine.

The new $540,000 vehicle would be both a pumper truck and a rescue vehicle, replacing a 1987 pumper the town bought used in 2010 and a 1989 pumper that the town used for more than 30 years after buying it new.

The cost of the new truck would be paid for with up to $200,000 from the town’s unreserved surplus account and $353,000 from the town’s fire truck reserve account.

A truck committee has been meeting for about a year to plan what to buy, making visits to other departments and determining what features it should have. Among the characteristics they looked for was a connection on the front to make it easier to draw water from lakes, ponds and dry hydrants.

After Decades of Work, Shasta County (CA) to Get New Fire Station

According to a report from KRCR, South Shasta County, California, will be getting a county fire station located off Riverside Avenue and Ox-Yoke Road. The more than two-acre plot of land was donated to the county by Sierra Pacific Industries.

The new Station 47 will be about 10,000 square feet in size and house two firefighters and two fire engines, with more room to grow.

Approximately 30,000 people are currently served out of the airport fire station. CAL FIRE Chief Sean Kavanaugh says the new station will lead to faster response times, offering quick access with the Interstate 5 and 273 corridor to the north and south as well as down to West Anderson and to the eastern portion of the countyto Deschutes and the Balls Ferry Road area.

Kavanaugh says he hopes the station will be ready to begin responses by next summer.
