Canton Township (MI) Open New $6.5 Million Fire Station

According to a report from Hometown Life, the Canton Township (MI) Fire Department’s (CTFD’s) new station on Warren Road near the intersection with Haggerty Road features quick-acting bay doors courtesy of local business International Door, which are a favorite feature of CTFD Chief Christopher Stoecklein.

Stoecklein also praised the station’s extra space of the new $6.5 million station such as the private bedrooms, (which means no locker rooms) as well as the decontamination and alerting features.

Planning for the station began several years ago, and construction took place in the past few. A ladder truck, an engine, two ambulances, and six firefighters will officially start moving through the station next week. The crew will be responsible for about nine square miles of coverage, according to Stoecklein.

Twiggs County (GA) Opens Brand-New Fire Station

According to a report from WMAZ, a new fire station built in Twiggs County, Georgia, that had its grand opening on Monday should help bring down the area’s high ISO rate, meaning fire stations’ response times will go up while area insurance will go down.

After months of construction delays, the fully staffed fire station just outside of Jeffersonville will now have one 24-hour on-call firefighter starting Monday.

Deputy Chief Gilbert French says that the department has saved money by building parts of the station and living quarters themselves.

Before this week, they had only four stations. Within the first week, they’ve already responded to six fire calls.

Twiggs County Emergency Management Agency Director Jack Wood said the company’s 10- to 15-year goal is to build and staff five to six more stations, which would cover 85 percent of the county within a five-mile radius. It would also reduce their response times to one-half of what they are now.

In the meantime, the department is looking for more volunteer, part-time, and full-time fire fighters.
