Eugene Airport (OR) Gets New Fire Apparatus

The electric-green truck holds 1,500 gallons of water, 850 pounds of foam and dry extinguishing agent, and has a water pump that puts out 2,000 gallons per minute. That’s three times the water capacity and 500 more gallons pumped per minute than a standard fire truck, according to Eugene Springfield Fire Captain Tim Blackwell.

The extra capacity of these specialized trucks makes a significant difference in dealing with the larger fires that could come from an airplane, Blackwell said.

The truck is the newest in the airport’s three-truck fleet. It has two nozzles on the front — controlled from the inside — to put out fires. This eliminates the need to get out of the cab to direct water or foam onto the fire, which Blackwell said is important when handling large-scale fires.

Fire Truck Manufacturer and Heavy Truck Parts Supplier, HME Incorporated Opens New Facility in West Michigan

Grand Rapids/Wyoming, MI—HME Incorporated has completed a new 25,000-square-foot facility near its existing West Michigan locations. The purpose-built structure at 1905 Chicago Dr. SW, Wyoming, MI will serve as headquarters for the company’s heavy truck parts distribution business. The company will begin occupying the building in April 2019 and join existing parts distribution locations in Dallas, Texas; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Cinnaminson, New Jersey, providing the aftermarket heavy truck service industry with branded replacement parts. HME has been a supplier to that market for over 30 years.

“Continued growth with an expanding customer base has necessitated the need for additional space,” said HME Parts President Shawn Grasman. “This new facility not only gives us the needed footprint, but also enables us to function more efficiently in a building designed to meet our needs. With this move both business segments will gain productivity.”

In addition to its heavy truck parts business, HME’s other primary operating unit, HME Ahrens-Fox, is a manufacturer of custom and commercial fire trucks. “HME has been growing in both of our primary businesses in recent years,” said HME-Ahrens-Fox President Jim Monterusso. “This project ensures that we will have headroom for additional expansion in both the aftermarket truck parts and fire truck sectors in the future.”
