State Grant Approved for Carlsbad Fire Department (NM) Fire Apparatus

The Carlsbad City Council approved a grant with the State of New Mexico to purchase a new fire truck, reports Carlsbad Current Argus.

The new truck would replace a truck that is nine-years-old. The fire department has outgrown the current medium sized vehicle and the new truck allows firefighters to have more equipment when dealing with traffic accidents and rescues.

According to a grant application from the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) the money was allocated by the 2020 New Mexico Legislature.

Columbus (OH) Opens Fire Station

Columbus firefighters have pushed in a fire truck to celebrate the opening of a fire station, reports The Columbus Dispatch.

City Council approved $9.4 million in July 2019 for construction of the station, which replaces the old station that was built in the 1950s.

The new station can house up to 15 people in single-person dormitory rooms. Like a fire station that opened last year, this station is focused on health.

A transition locker room is located immediately off the garage area, allowing firefighters to change out of their uniforms without carrying carcinogens or other materials from fire scenes into the living areas of the station.

City of Union Gap (WA) Welcomes New Fire Truck

According to a report from KIMA, the city of Union Gap, Washington, introduced a new fire truck that will now serve Union Gap as well as the city of Yakima. It’s the city’s first new apparatus since 2012.

At a cost of $485,000, the single truck replaces an engine made for responding to structure fires and an engine used for brush fires which, according to Union Gap firefighters, makes the truck the first of its kind in this area.

The firefighters pitched the proposal for a new apparatus to the city in 2018. It is now stationed at Yakima (WA) Fire Department Station 96 in Union Gap.

Union Gap Mayor John Hodkinson said that being able to purchase this kind of truck instead of two at the same time will save taxpayers money.
