The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

Middletown (OH) to Purchase New Fire Euipment

The Division of Fire is requesting to replace 13 full sets of turnout gear along with fire gloves, boots, and helmets due to damage and/or age of gear, according to Samantha Zimmerman, the city’s purchasing agent. In addition, she said approximately 15 pieces of fire gear will be assessed and repaired as needed in this request. At its Oct. 16 meeting, City Council will give its final approval to spend $40,000 to purchase new firefighting turnout gear and repairs from Phoenix Outfitters of Springfield. The company is the city’s current supplier and has Middletown’s turnout gear specifications on file. In addition, the company uses Ohio state term schedules for its pricing, according to Zimmerman.

Tulsa Fire Apparatus Collides with Cement Mixer Truck

Authorities on the scene near 37th and Harvard say both trucks were southbound on Harvard. The fire truck was running with lights and sirens en route to a call but the mixer failed to yield. When the fire truck tried to go around the right side, the mixer moved over at the last second.  

The fire truck's bucket hit the mixer trough in the back. Police ticketed the mixer truck driver.

USDA Awards Funds for Reliance (SD) Fire Apparatus

The USDA is allocating a $50,000 grant and $15,000 in loans for the purchase of a new brush fire truck for the Reliance Fire Department. The announcement noted that the fire truck serves an area of 3,755 people in Lyman County.  

In other South Dakota projects, the USDA also announced the Eagle Butte Volunteer Fire Department received $26,900 in loans and $19,450 in grants to use for protective firefighting gear, including bunker gear.

Gear Stolen from UK Fire Apparatus

Police Seek Suspects

Warwickshire (UK) police are searching for suspects after equipment was reportedly stole from a fire truck.

The theft occurred when the fire engine was parked outside All Saints Church of England Community Primary School last week. Reports did not indicate what type of equipment was taken from the rig.
