The purpose of the Fire Mechanics Section is to promote standardization of fire apparatus and equipment preventative maintenance, improve safety standards and practices, promote workshops, conferences, and seminars related to the purposes of this Section, and to promote cost savings through standardization of building and equipment purchasing and maintenance.

New vehicle for Heartland Fire could be hot item nationwide

The department earlier this month started sending firefighters out to some crisis situations in the new emergency vehicle to take some of the heat off the department’s big engine trucks.

Because it costs less and requires fewer personnel, it’s an attractive alternative for departments trying to manage budgets and lower response times.

The primary mission of Squad 6 is to respond to low-acuity medical emergencies, freeing up the department’s Engine 6 and Truck 6 to respond to more significant emergencies.

Proposed $5.5m fire station considered in Litchfield

A warrant article is expected to be placed on the March ballot asking voters to support the proposed bond, which would cover the construction costs of a new, 10-bay fire station on town-owned property at Liberty Way next to the existing town offices.

Investigation Underway After Contaminants Found In Spokane Fire Department Air Compressors

The discovery, which occurred in mid-November after firefighters noticed a foul smell coming from air canisters during a breathing test, prompted fire department leaders to shut down all three of the department’s air compressors. Those compressors had been used to fill and refill 500 air tanks used by about 330 firefighters throughout 16 fire stations.
