Fort Worth (TX) Police's Tactical Medic Unit Gives Aid in Active Shooting Situations

It is an all-too-real and all-too-familiar scenario. Two shooters have left people clinging to life on a public street, and the threat hasn't been contained. It's the kind of situation Fort Worth Police's elite "Tactical Medic Unit" is ready for.
It's the kind of situation Fort Worth Police's elite "Tactical Medic Unit" is ready for.

"If we've got an active shooter situation where we have casualties inside the building, we don’t have time to wait 15 or 20 minutes to finish securing the building to call EMS in," explains Officer Sean Romer.

t's something you don't see often in policing, a unit solely made up of police officers who are also paramedics. Fort Worth Police Department is proud to have nine of them, including Romer, who can go right into dangerous, unfolding situations and administer medical aid. Washington Community Fire Protection District (MO) Adds Fire Apparatus

Big fires require big water and the newly formed Washington Community Fire Protection District is beefing up its fire suppression arsenal with a new 2,100-gallon water tanker. Fire Chief Bill Halmich says at the formation of the new district, the first priority would be to strengthen the amount of water they can get to the scene.
U.S. Tanker LLC, based in Delavan, Wisc., was the low bidder on the new apparatus that comes with a base price tag of $269,000.

Halmich estimates an additional $13,000 to $15,000 for lettering and equipment, including a portable water tank and hoses, will be needed before the truck goes into service.

Red Oak (IA) Fire Department Seeks Funding for New Fire Equipment

Red Oak fire officials are hoping to raise money this weekend for new life saving equipment. Local residents are invited to an open house at the Red Oak Fire Station Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pancakes and sausages will be served for free will donations.
Proceeds from the donations will assist the department in purchasing a Lucas 3 Chest Compression System. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Thursday morning, Red Oak Fire Chief John Bruce says the new equipment is necessary to meet the demands of a growing coverage area.

"Over the course of the years," said Bruce, "our EMS response area has grown substantially. We're kind of bordering about 500 square miles of EMS coverage, and that's assisting area communities."

Orange City (IA) to Dedicate Fire Station Expansion

The Orange City Fire Department will dedicate its fire station expansion with meals and tours on Oct. 13. The dedication of the station, 202 Albany Ave. SE, is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. with a meal served from noon to 1 p.m.
Orange City voters in 2016 passed a $2.75 million bond issue to help fund the project, which was completed below the originally estimated cost of $3.75 million. The station was expanded by 12,000 square feet. Another 3,800 square feet of the station, which was built in 1973, were renovated so the building would meet national health and safety codes. The renovated and expanded station provides more storage, training and work space and has improved ventilation.
