New Winnipeg (Canada) Fire Apparatus will Make Water Rescues Quicker

Saving lives on rivers and ponds could be a smoother operation from now on, thanks to a new $1-million investment firefighters say will make water rescues faster, safer and just a little more warm. At the heart of the buzz are two new Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) water rescue trucks.
At the heart of the buzz are two new Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) water rescue trucks. The vehicles were custom-built in Winnipeg, designed around city water rescue technicians’ own wish list of features.

Firefighters showed off the new trucks Saturday morning, during a live training exercise near St. Vital Park.

Four New Fire Stations Get OK From Lincoln (NE) Design Committee

Designs for Lincoln's four new fire stations received high marks Tuesday from the city's Urban Design Committee. Several months ago, the committee criticized the design for a fifth fire station being built near the Lincoln Airport to replace the existing Station 11, and suggested the city bring better-looking, more inspiring building designs for future stations.
The design for Station 15, which will serve as both a fire and police station at 6601 Pine Lake Road, already has a distinctive entrance. The architects should be more creative with the other three entrances, committee members suggested.

"These are important civic buildings. I don't think it needs to be camouflaged. I think a little bit of design flair, especially at the entry would be nice," said Gill Peace.

Kauai Fire Department (HI) Warns Operators to Keep Drones Away from Emergency Operations

The Kauai Fire Department is reminding the public to keep drones away from emergency situations. Anyone who flies an unmanned aircraft system during an emergency response operation without authorization could be breaking the law and may be subject to significant fines.
"During recent brush fires and air rescues, there have been several drone sightings that came relatively close to our Air 1 helicopter," said Fire Chief Robert Westerman. "I'd like to remind everyone that flying drones near any fire operation is not only against federal regulations, it is very dangerous for the helicopter and personnel on board."
