Clallam County Fire District No. 2 refurbishes brush engine from DNR | Peninsula Daily News

Officials gathered at the district’s Port Angeles office Wednesday to dedicate a refurbished brush truck that was previously owned by the state Department of Natural Resources.

The 2001 International “Type 5” wildfire engine has a 600-gallon water tank that can be pumped while being driven along fire lines in forests, fields and other hard-to-get-to areas.

Wheel Repairs Delay Debut Of Freeburg'S Refurbished Model T Fire Truck

In April, the fire company sent the vehicle's four original wheels to Coker Tire in Chattanooga, Tenn., to be replaced.

"They said we'd have it in three months. Now we hope to have it back in early December," Klingler said.

The delay is being attributed to the lack of professionals who know how to work with these type of tires that require three layers of rubber on each wheel, he said.

"Only one or two people in the company do it," Klingler said. "They tell us our tires are in the process of being done."

New 100' Aerial Fire Unit and Old Steam Engine Unveiled

Funds were allocated in the 2016 CIP for replacement of the department's 1977 Snorkel truck with equipment. With City Council's approval, the Sutphen company was selected to build the custom 100-foot mid-mount aerial after completing the bid process. The apparatus will be the frontline engine for the future Station 4, but will be housed at Murfreesboro Fire & Rescue Department's Special Ops station (Station 7 located on N. Thompson Lane) until new the station is built. This apparatus will enhance aerial coverage for the city and help the department maintain its ISO 2 rating.

 

The 1892 Ahrens steam fire engine was the City's first piece of firefighting equipment. For years, it was stored in one of the sheds at Cannonsburgh Village.
